1. Giving Back
It’s deeply important to us that our retreats are not just about experiencing beautiful places, but also about giving back to the communities and land that welcome us in! A portion of the proceeds from our Guatemala retreat will be donated to Mercado Global, an incredible local nonprofit empowering rural artisan entrepreneurs across Guatemala to lift their families out of poverty through business training and access to international markets.
2. The Journey to the Lake
Getting to the retreat is part of the adventure. From Guatemala City, it’s approximately a 3.5–4 hour drive to Lake Atitlán followed by a short 15-minute boat ride to the retreat property.
3. Arrive Early If You Can
We highly recommend arriving a night early if possible. Travel days can be long, and giving yourself a night to rest before the group transfer can make the experience feel much more easy. This also helps buffer any risk of flight delays.
4. Extend Your Stay
If your schedule allows, we also recommend extending your stay before or after the retreat. Guatemala has so much beauty to explore beyond the lake, including Antigua, volcano hikes, local markets, and other villages around Atitlán.
5. Pack Layers
Lake Atitlán mornings and evenings can feel cool, while daytime can be warm and sunny. We recommend packing layers for comfort throughout the day.
6. Sacred Land & Mayan Culture
Lake Atitlán is considered sacred by the Maya people and has long been viewed as a place of spiritual connection, ceremony, healing, and remembrance. There is a deep reverence for the land, water, and surrounding volcanoes that can still be felt today.
7. Bring Some Cash
Most places around the lake prefer cash, especially smaller cafes, tuk tuks, markets, and local vendors. It’s helpful to carry some cash with you.
8. Slower WiFi & Slower Pace
WiFi around the lake can be slower and less reliable than major cities in the U.S., which honestly can become part of the magic and invitation to unplug a little more deeply.
9. A Nature-Immersed Experience
The retreat space is surrounded by lush greenery and wildlife, so expect birds, tropical plants, insects, and maybe a few friendly animals around the property.
10. Alcohol-Free Retreat Space
This is an alcohol-free retreat experience designed to support presence, clarity, nervous system regulation, and deeper connection throughout the week.
